Reception of the Sacraments: It is with regret, disappointment and frustration that we have to announce that the celebration of the sacraments of Confirmation, First Holy Communion and Baptism have been postponed until further notice. The Government issued the following advisory on Wednesday:

Measures coming into place from 5 July

It is advised that religious ceremonies such as Baptisms, First Holy Communions and Confirmations should not take place at this time.

Further advice will follow on resumption of these ceremonies when it is safe to do so.

Following receipt of this Government advisory, Archbishop Kieran O’ Reilly SMA wrote to parishes, school principals and parents/guardians. His letter includes the Government’s notice of deferral of the celebration of the sacraments. He also expresses that he is ‘disappointed to have to convey this decision to you as I know it impacts on many throughout the Archdiocese, especially the young members of our church communities preparing for the sacraments, their parents, families and school personnel.’ As priests of the parish, we too have heard at local level the frustration and disappointment felt by the many families affected by the Government’s decision. We share with you the earnest hope that we will be able to hold these celebrations as soon as possible. We will report to you any further developments as soon as we are notified.
