Great Night On Zoom
Last year, when the laudable idea of not letting the parish tradition of the Good Friday night quiz lapse, ‘zooming’ for many was akin to suggesting that we scale Mount Everest (or even Galteemore for some of us). By now, the technology is useful if not ideal. And so, the 2nd annual ‘Zoomed In Quiz’ took place.
In excess of fifty teams – with members all socially distanced throughout the country - tested their knowledge and recall. Really gratifying was the fact that ‘the Zoom-in quiz’ enabled several entries from three generations of families to be part of this tradition. Funds from the night were for two worthwhile recipients, Cuan Saor, Clonmel, and the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association.
Sisters, Marie and Louise Gleeson, their cousin Nicola Hunt from the parish and their uncle Brian Clancy, originally from Cashel, now resident in Nenagh, emerged victorious from Jo McCan’s team. Congratulations to both teams in a closely fought contest and to all the other teams. Quite a few were there, or thereabouts to the final half-mile but, as in any race, it became their undoing! Similar to other entrants, the victorious families have been keen supporters for many years.
The Quizmaster, Liam Ó Duibhir is a constant for this quiz – setting a variety of questions that range from the ‘two mark’ to the ‘mastermind’ standard.
A huge thanks to him, all the organisers, and our local sponsors, O’Dwyers Family Butchers, Morrissey’s Supervalu. O’Dwyer’s Pharmacy and Centenary Co-Op, Cahir Road for spot prizes that were won through a ‘Spin-the Wheel’ of entrants’ names.
As a parish community, we appreciate very much the support of all to keep the tradition alive. It helps to create good memories, parish loyalty and a sense of community as well as generating funds for two worthy charities. The Covid-19 pandemic has caused huge disruption and stress to life as we knew it, but finding new ways of coping has been a positive feature for many parishes.
