Offering a sign of peace is a goodwill gesture towards others. We are reminding ourselves that we belong to a Communion of Jesus Christ. Before we receive him in Holy Communion we are expressing friendship and peace with those around us. We are saying to them that we are united in the one Body.
Offering the sign of peace may take different forms; (1) you may bow to the person nearest to you. (2) You might just give them a smile. (3) A wave of your hand. (4) Give them a handshake. (5) Embrace them. Please feel free to express friendship and peace in a way you are comfortable with.
