Report from Boherlahan Parish Council Meeting, 9th May, 2017

25th May 2017 by Editor

There were 14 members present and the Chairman, Sean Trainor, presided.

Minutes: The minutes of the previous meeting held in mid-March were read and signed by the Chairman.

Discussion Topics:

Safeguarding: The programme to have all participants in parish activities Garda vetted is on-going. This is a programme in place across the Diocese of Cashel and Emly. It is hoped over the coming months to have it completed.

Water Bill: The Primary School and the Hall are on the same water meter with the public supply. However, there is a separate meter which measures the water used in the Parish Hall. The Treasurer of the Parish Council, Paddy O’Dwyer will sort out the matter with the School Board of Management.

Hall Committee: The question of a new independent Parish Hall Committee was raised by the Parish Priest, Fr. J. Egan. Over the coming months there will be some further discussion at Parish Council level about the merit and challenges in setting up such a group.

Annual Primary School Sports: The Parish Council have for decades organised the school sports for Primary School pupils in the parish. Traditionally the sports evening is held in the last two weeks before the summer holidays. It was decided that Thursday evening 22nd June would be ideal but that the Chairman should speak to the teachers in the three schools and to the GAA field representative to insure that it would be possible on that night. Failing that, it was decided that going back a week would be an alternative.

Votes of Sympathy: Votes of Sympathy were passed to the families of parishioners who had died since the previous meeting. These included Noreen Murphy, St. Joseph’s Avenue; John Burke, Clareen; Mary Ryan, Ballydine; Helen Ryan, Bohereen Bocht; Donal O’Dwyer, Ballypaudeen; Kitty Egan, formerly Bawnmore.

Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held in early June ahead of the Parish Sports where final preparation for same will be made.

A.O.B.: Under Any Other Business the election of a new Parish Council was raised. It was suggested that the Autumn would be the best time. This will be further discussed at the next meeting.

The meeting concluded with a prayer for the deceased referred to in the votes of sympathy.
