Presentation to Fr Peter Brennan
Farewell to Fr Peter Brennan
On Friday June 3rd, the parishioners of Boherlahan & Dualla celebrated with Fr Peter Brennan. Fr Peter was recently assigned to the parish of Clonoulty-Rossmore having served eight years as curate of Boherlahan-Dualla from 2007 to 2015. A large crowd gathered in Dualla Community Hall to make a presentation to Fr Peter.
MC on the night was Joan Kennedy, Treasurer of Dualla Parish Council.
Sean Trainor, Chairman of Boherlahan Parish Council, spoke about his memories of Fr Peter's time in the parish and his huge involvement in all aspects of parish life.
Fr Thomas Dunne, the new curate, said a few words on life in the parish filling Fr Peter's shoes. He is regularly asked if he has any interest in the horses or if he keeps a dog!
Joan Kennedy spoke on behalf of Dualla Parish Council and said Fr Peter was a tremendous help to many in the parish: from the spiritual side of his ministry, to the playing fields, to the horses, and all things in between. He was Chair of the Dualla Parish Council and she had called on him many times for his advice, which was always given gladly. He integrated very well, and there is no doubt that he is doing the same in Clonoulty. They are very lucky to get him, and she wished him well in his new ministry in the full knowledge that he will reacquaint himself with many old friends there and make many more new friends too.
Fr Peter addressed the gathering and spoke of his memories of his time in Boherlahan-Dualla, and now as PP of Clonoulty-Rossmore. It is a new ministry, a new experience and yet still not too far from all the friends he made while in this parish. He thanked the organisers for the wonderful night, the presentation of an engraved glass bowl and cheque, and for all the work with decorations, music and food. He was very grateful to all involved.
William Troy also made a presentation to Fr Peter on behalf of Dualla Ploughing Association.
The celebration continued with plenty of chats over tea and refreshments. A great evening was had by all.
