Today is World Day of the Poor, instituted by Pope Francis during the Jubilee of Mercy. ‘Jesus not only sides with the poor; he also shares their lot. This is a powerful lesson for his disciples in every age. This is the meaning of his observation that “the poor you will always have with you” (From Pope Francis’s Message for World Day of the Poor, 2021).

Wed 17 Nov is the memorial of St Elizabeth of Hungary (1207-31), religious.

Bishops’ Mass at Knock: On Sunday 14 November the Catholic bishops of Ireland will undertake a pilgrimage to the International Eucharistic and Marian Shrine at Knock. Mass begins at 3.00pm, and will be offered for all who died due to Covid-19, for all who are bereaved, and in thanksgiving for all who selflessly sacrificed so much during the pandemic. This Mass will be live-streamed on www.knockshrine.ie and broadcast on the RTÉ News Now digital television channel and online. The bishops invite everyone to join with them in prayer on this solemn occasion.

Diocesan Pastoral Plan: This plan was launched recently and it gives guidelines on future developments in the Diocese. We hope to call a meeting as soon as possible to discuss and plan how our parish here can play its part.  We also plan to distribute some literature on the plan “Seeds of Hope” in the coming weeks.

November Masses for the Dead:  Every November our thoughts and prayers turn to our loved ones who have died. Our faith tells us that our prayers and Masses can help them. The November envelopes are available in the porches of the churches. We ask you to write in the names and hand them in as soon as possible. In collecting your envelope, if you know a neighbour or neighbours who would appreciate an envelope, please take one for them.

Advent Scripture Course: ‘In God we live and move and have our being.’ A Scripture Course exploring the Acts of the Apostles with Sr Therese Fitzgerald has been organized over six nights. Further details are available on the notice in the porch of the church. Register at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ActsOfTheApostles . €15 contribution requested. Everyone is welcome.

Trócaire Emergency Appeal:  We have received word from Trócaire of their dire need for help in supporting the poor and vulnerable in different parts of our world. If you would like to make a contribution to this worthy cause, please drop the envelope in the Collection Box. There are some envelopes in the porch. Sincere thanks to all who have contributed already.

Covid and Safety in Church: Sensible hygiene measures and the use of face coverings are among the ways in which people’s health can be protected and all can feel confident in gathering in church. Your cooperation in this important matter is much appreciated.

Cashel and Emly Pope John Paul II Awards: If you are a secondary school student from TY year upwards, who is willing to be involved in your parish/school, why not participate in the Pope John Paul II Award. Fr Vincent Stapleton, the Diocesan Director, would only be delighted to visit your parish and assist with the setting up of the Award. Our new diocesan plan – Seeds of Hope – calls us all to encourage the youth of our diocese to get involved. This is a great way to do so.

Newsletter Notices: please forward by Wednesday evening any items for the newsletter to either of the priests or at the usual email address: boduparish@gmail.com These will be included in the online newsletter which will be posted each week on www.boherlahandualla.ie during the pandemic restrictions.

BE VIGILANT: as the winter nights set in we ask all parishioners to keep a special eye out for the elderly and those who live alone. If anyone notices any suspicious activity or vehicles in the area, we ask them to contact the local Gardaí. Let us as a community care for one another.

November could be called the month of the communion of saints. We remember the dead, not only to pray for them, but to give thanks for their lives on earth, and to draw hope from their present life with God (Donal Neary SJ).
