Parish News 17/7/2016

GAA: Another busy week just gone. Our Junior hurlers played Thurles Sarsfields in the Mid Junior Championship and won 2-16 to 3-05. Our Intermediates play Drom Inch in the Mid Intermediate Hurling Semi Final on Saturday, 6th August in Holycross. Keep an eye on club social media and the club website for upcoming fixtures.

Sympathy: The death occurred on Tuesday, 12th July at St. Patricks Hospital, Cashel of Martin McGrath, Dualla. He was son of Michael and Margaret McGrath (nee Ryan) and hailed from a family of nine boys and one girl. Four of his brothers Mikey, Tommy, Christy and Willie and his sister Nora Roche predeceased him. All of his life was spent in the family home in Dualla until ill health necessitated him moving to St Patricks Hospital, Cashel, where he died at the age of 86 years. Born during hard, economic times and hailing from a large family with a good work ethic, Martin, like many of his siblings worked with Bord na Mona and local farmers. He spent many years working with next door neighbour, Martin Power, Dualla. Possessed of quiet and kind disposition, he enjoyed sport and loved to recreate memories of a happy home environment, created by his parents. His father Michael was a great conversationalist, regarding times past as he and four of his brothers Willie, Tom, Ned and Jimmy took part in World War 1. All brothers fought in the trenches in France and survived the terrible carnage there. Michael was captured by the Germans and spent some time in a prisoner of war camp. Martin’s remains were removed from Devitt’s Funeral Parlour, Cashel to the Church of Our Lady of Fatima, Dualla and after Requiem Mass on the following day celebrated by Fr. Tom Dunne CC and assisted by Fr. Joe Egan PP, Fr. Christy O’Dwyer, Dean of Cashel, Fr. Thomas Egan (retired), interment took place in the adjoining cemetery. He is survived by his brothers Pakie, Johnny, Jimmy and Vincent and by his sisters-in-law, Kitty and Bridget, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Peace to his soul.
