My Family Hurling History
My name is Mollie Maher. I am eight years old and live in the Boherlahan-Dualla parish. I am a BIG Tipperary hurling fan. I was at all the Tipperary hurling matches this year including my first All-Ireland final - and a win for Tipperary!
My Daddy told me that Michael (also known as Big Mikey) Maher, who was my great-granduncle, won five All-Irelands for Tipperary. He played with the famous Tubberadora team. Wow, it’s a small world!
Michael (Mikey) Maher
Mikey's nephew, my granduncle, also called Michael Maher, was part of the famous backline for Tipperary called “Hell’s Kitchen”. He also won five All-Ireland medals playing with Tipperary. Up Tipp!
My Daddy says if he had been called Michael we could have five All-Ireland medals in the cupboard at home!
I do have the same initials as my famous ancestors – MM, so maybe I can win five All-Ireland medals for Tipperary someday….. Up the Sash!
