Community Games Cross Country Athletics.

31st October 2018 by Editor

Trophy Claimed for the Second Consecutive Year.

On Thursday 25th October, Boherlahan Dualla Community Games participated in the County Tipperary qualifiers for the All Ireland Cross Country athletics competition at Thurles Crokes AC grounds.

We had a tremendous turnout from the parish which resulted in our winning the Mary Doyle Memorial Trophy for the best represented area. This is the second consecutive year that we have claimed the trophy.

The participants on the night were Paula Quirke, Brid Quirke, Tadhg O Donnell, Conor O Donnell, Daire O Donnell, Aoife O Donnell, Doireann Ryan, Harry Ryan, Sarah McLoughlin, Bobby McLoughlin, Ryne Bargary, Michael Delahunty, Rory Crosse, Dara Crosse, Mollie Maher, Sophie Moynihan, Ruth O Connell, Leah O Connell, Roisin Heffernan, Ruby Maher, Abbie Horgan, and Sarah Meehan.

All the participants ran fantastic races and we had a very successful medal haul by the end of the evening.

We got off to a flying start in the first race, where we took home all of the medals on offer – Girls U10 600m: 1st Sophie Moynihan, 2nd Aoife O Donnell, 3rd Leah O Connell, 4th Abbie Horgan. In the boys U10 600m, Harry Ryan was a very impressive 4th. The U10 competition doesn’t progress beyond county level.

In the very competitive girls U12 500m, Sarah McLoughlin came 6th which qualifies her for the county squad. In the boys U12 500m, Ryne Bargary was the convincing winner.

In the boys U13 1200m, we had 1st Tadhg O Donnell and 2nd Daire O Donnell, in yet another epic battle of a race between them.

In the girls U14 700m, Paula Quirke was the silver medalist; ending our night with Sarah, Ryne, Tadhg, Daire and Paula all qualifying to represent Tipperary in the All Ireland Winter Community Games finals next May.

Many thanks to the participants and their parents, especially to Liz Moynihan who brought the athletes around the course before the races started to familiarize them with the route.

At the recent County Community Games AGM, Boherlahan Dualla were commended as one of the highest scoring areas, especially noteworthy as it was our first year competing for many years.
