Performances at All Ireland Community Games.

3rd June 2018 by Editor

All Ireland Community Games Winter Finals

On the weekend of May 26th-27th, the All Ireland Community Games Winter Finals were held in University of Limerick.

Boherlahan Dualla had five participants who qualified to be the county representatives at their events.

Rory Crosse won the county U10 Handwriting competition. In the All Ireland finals he had one hour to transcribe a 150 word document. While he didn’t get a medal on the day, his transcript was excellent. Thankfully, Tipperary managed to live to fight another day with their last minute draw against Cork, as Rory is an avid fan and had to forego the match to participate in his competition!

Niall Fitzgerald was the county U12 Solo Music representative. He plays the Melodeon. With marks for both technical ability and overall entertainment, Niall performed brilliantly on the day and won the Bronze medal. Niall comes from a very musical family and plays with Comhaltas in Cashel. Recently, along with his older brothers Cian and Aaron, they enjoyed great success at the County Fleadh Ceoil in Templemore. Niall is progressing to the Munster Fleadh Ceoil in Ennis with his melodeon, Cian with the concertina and Aaron with the flute. In addition they are the county champions for the trio, and also progress with Caiseal na Mumhan Comhaltas as members of the Ceili bands, along with Sarah McLoughlin.

In cross country athletics, we had three representatives. Daire O Donnell and Tadhg O Donnell made up two members of county U12 relay team. Daire was running the first leg 600m and Tadhg was running the final leg 400m. They initially ran on Saturday coming 2nd and qualified for the final 8 teams to run again on Sunday. In the final, they ran a great race but an extremely strong Westmeath team blew the field away! The boys were 6th overall – an excellent result.

Paula Quirke qualified for the mixed U13 cross country team. However, due to another member of the team pulling out at the last minute, the rest of the team were unable to compete as each team required four girls and four boys to participate. This was very disappointing for Paula who is a talented cross country runner and runs with Dundrum AC.

Paula is a member of the girls U14 Football team, who played amazing football to reach the county finals on May 12th in Holycross. In the final, they were up against an extremely strong Fethard team, and sadly didn’t win. However, they are a very talented and committed group who are enjoying success in both football and camogie.

Up next are the county Community Games athletics finals, which are being held in Moyne on Sunday 10th June. We wish our competitors the best of luck and hope they have a very enjoyable day.
