My Christmas Box

I always love Christmas, especially Christmas morning when we open Santa’s presents. One Christmas was very special, because Grandad gave me a present that I will always treasure.

Santa brought a bike, games and sweets. Grandad’s present was on the step of the stairs. Quickly I tore off all the layers of lovely paper to find a box. But to my surprise there was nothing inside. It was unlike Grandad to disappoint.

When he visited that morning as he always did at Christmas, there was a twinkle in his eye.

He said, "Did you get my present Dan?"
I said, "I got an empty box Grandad."
He said, "Always keep that box near you, because really it’s full, full of my love for you."

Santa’s presents are worn and broken but Grandad’s box of love is under my pillow.
