Boherlahan Dualla Community games have begun 2020 with great enthusiasm and performance by our young participants.

The County Indoor soccer finals were held on 8th February in the Ursuline Sports hall in Thurles. We had three teams competing – U13 boys trained by Brian Heffernan, Geraldine Graham and Ger Kennedy, U13 Girls trained by Brian Horgan and Marie Horgan and U10 girls trained by Jimmy Murray, Corrie Dwyer, Liz Moynihan and Mary Kennedy.

The U13 boys competed first and faced a tense battle against Ballinahinch Killoscully. Despite playing very well and holding the majority of the possession, the boys were unlucky to be beaten 4-2. Ballinahinch Killoscully went on to qualify for the final where they were beaten by Drangan/Cloneen. The Boherlahan Dualla U13 boys team was Darragh Heffernan, Eoin Kennedy, Ronan Graham, Aaron Fitzgerald, Conor O Donnell, Conor Fogarty, Cillian Nash and Aaron McGeer.

The girls U13 team faced a very strong Newport team. Newport had just come from defeating Cahir and this stood to them as they scored two quick goals before Boherlahan Dualla had settled into the pace of the game. The girls played extremely well and kept the score line at 2-0, but Newport had an excellent goalie and defender and kept all the Boherlahan Dualla attacks at bay. Newport went on to win the U13 girls final. The Boherlahan Dualla U13 girls team was Abbie Horgan, Sophie Moynihan, Sarah Meehan, Roisin Heffernan, Ruth O Connell, Doireann Ryan, Leah Maher and Dearbhaile Casey.

The Girls U10 team played Cahir in their semi final and were comfortable winners against a depleted Cahir team. They went on to the final against Ballingarry. From the start, the girls were the stronger team and raced into a 4-0 lead. Ballingarry brought it back to 4-2 before Boherlahan Dualla piled on the pressure and won the game with a final score of 6-2. The U10 girls team was Mae Kennedy, Robyn Leahy, Leah O Connell, Cliona Moynihan, Clodagh Fitzgerald, Faye Burke, Avril O Dwyer and Caoimhe Lacey. The girls will contest the Munster finals in UL on 18th April. Many thanks to Boherlahan Dualla GAA and Boherlahan Dualla Camogie clubs for the use of their jerseys.

The next competition was the U14 table quiz held in the Presentation Secondary School in Thurles on 14th February. 17 children participated and made up 5 teams. While we had no medal winners on the night, all teams performed extremely well and had a very enjoyable evening. The participants were – Rory Crosse, Dara Crosse, Ruth O Connell, Leah O Connell, Eoin Kennedy, Conor Kennedy, Conor Fogarty, Ronan Graham, Daire O Donnell, Darragh Heffernan, Alex Wade, Leah Maher, Emily Clifton Browne, Roisin Heffernan, Dearbhaile Casey, Doireann Ryan and Avril O Dwyer.

The county swimming gala was held on 21st February and we had five participants from Boherlahan Dualla – Emily Lynch U12 girls backstroke, Fionn Ivors U12 Boys freestyle, Abi Power U12 girls Breaststroke, Charlie Lynch U12 boys backstroke and Alex Wade U14 boys backstroke. All performed extremely well with Charlie and Alex winning Bronze medals.

Next will be the county Talent finals which are being held in Boherlahan Hall on 28th February and on the 21st March, we have a mixed U11 basket ball team competing in Thurles along with the Boherlahan Dualla entries for Art and Handwriting.
